Unfurled and Danced

Spring has found me
with its bright sky,
found me unfurled and danced
by the glorious opening of color
that perfumes the day with peach,
plum and apple blossoms
and nights of dusky jasmine’s
heady dreaming.

Of course
I was lost,
my head in the poem
of this small corner
of my world reaching past season
into the core
that burns no matter,
just burns thoughts
made into words,
ropes of words that I climb
or fall from and dangle
drenched and unsure of direction.

And so I write for seasons
where creation finally breathes
and push it from my pores
and bruise my skin
in trying to say what I mean
and the moon still calls me
and I know I haven’t said it right
not to the full round brightness
of its meaning
and the stars unfold me
and I find that it doesn’t matter
only breathing matters
great and deep and powerful
til I am cemented to the sky
with air so heavy that I am drowning.

And what is color to this corner
that begs so much from me,
what of the wide open door
and the precious fern dappled porch
and the constant need of attention
to water the vibrant greening day?

I lay down under a sharp sun
this pressed rhythm
light and cloudless and full
and the explosion is so quiet
that the humming comes closer
and whispers
and I can’t quite hear it.

Martie,
Thjis is full of wonderful imagery! I will have to reread it to understand it better and take it in more fully, but it was very enjoyable. I was hooked from the very beginning.

I could actually smell the scent of ....
peach,

and nights of dusky jasmine’s
          heady dreaming.

It does NOT get any better than this !

Martie, I log on every day with expectations of another of your glorious poems.  You have never failed. I have this sudden desire to want to go and lay down out in the back yard and watch the setting sun.  Last night, six deer were grazing in the neighbor's lawn, nibbling at the bushes. Tonight, I have this feeling they just might return.

Beautiful and filled with such rich, vivid imagery, Martie.  Lovely work, as always.

Your last verse is astounding.  "Lying under a sharp sun" is a way of describing it that I would never have thought of.

You are filled with such beautiful poetry, it amazes me on a non-stop basis, increasingly.
