The vast white silence Resounding in his dreams He sleeps, floating through transparent fantasies He sees heaven He sees hell Demons and angels laughing The dull pulse of a respirator Breathing life into his veins And he sleeps on His consciousness limited to the barriers of his mind His closed eyes Locked gates to reality He cries for the curtain to be moved aside But he is trapped inside Lost inside the depths of a bleak void Awake, but still sleeping... |

this is one of the most touching poems i've ever read. it took me back to the day that i stood by my grandfather's bed as they "unplugged" him and i watched his life slip away... with tears in my eyes, i say thank you. |
