Satiated

While oatmeal lay
congealing in bowls
on the kitchen table
we lay together
under cool sheets
gaining sustenance
only from each other

As the rain fell
in rivers outside
inside safe and warm
we drowned
in tides of passion
collapsing
in one another’s arms

And to the soft sound
of distant windchimes
we moved
in a rhythm all our own
until satiated
we drifted off to sleep

To love means never to be afraid of the windstorms of life: should you shield the canyons from the windstorms you would never see the true beauty of their carvings. ~Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

Oh Ruth, I'm with you...leave the d...outmeal to congeal, there are far,far better things to do.  What a tender loving beautiful poem, and the oatmeal made it so human...I like that.

I've heard of the rhythm of the falling rain
now we have the rhythm of the windchimes.
Lovely poem.   James

Hoot, your poetry is always so beautiful and stirring!  Fantastic usage of imagery, and wonderful use of allegory.  Keep up the good work - I'm a major fan!
