So there they sit. The board's set up. The squares are all in place, A bowl of chips to munch on and a Webster's, just in case. By day the world is not too kind. It leaves them quite ignored But, every night, they find delight upon the Scrabble board. A starts with LONELY....not too bad - a very worthwhile play. B takes the "y" for MISERY. The game is underway. A comes right back with LONGING - B uses "g" for GONE, A takes the "e" to spell DECEIT...and so the game goes on. There was a time, not long ago, their worlds had fewer cares And small delights did not depend on wooden Scrabble squares. They played the game of Risk but always lost out to the blues And Trivial Pursuit is something they no longer choose. A spells out CHEAT. B tries DIVORCE, a double-letter "V". A uses CRY. B comes with CRAZY, smiling at the "Z". The game goes on into the night, the vodka freely poured... Unconciously, their lives spell out upon the Scrabble board. At end of night they tally points, though why is not too clear. No matter who has scored the most there is no winner here. Tomorrow they will try again to overcome their cares And find a bit of comfort in their wooden Scrabble squares. |

You can certainly do it! Your name is well chosen. This is exceptional. And, like my husband says, "he sure knows how and when to jump on a train"! |

I dunno, I fail to see the humor in this that Marge does... This is an excellent and kinda heartbreaking poem Balladeer. Dark poetry suits you rather well. |

This is masterful! Only you could take a simple game and make it into a poem about the game of life! Bravo! |

Once again... wow... I like this one a lot. Reminds me of those sweet old married couples that play chess and checkers on their Sundays. When I clicked on the title I thought I was in for a wierd poem and I did it mostly out of curiousty, but I'll be sure to look for your other post. Great poem. < !signature--> "We always said it would be good to go away, someday, but if there's nothing there to make things change, if it's the same to you I'll just hang." --Matchbox20 (Hang) [This message has been edited by WhiteNite (edited 04-09-2000).] |

I'll just be damned if there isn't anything you can't write about, and make it sound excellent. Scrabble of life. I enjoyed this as I enjoy them all Balladeer. |
