The Voice Ring-a-ding ding, that guy could sing In the wee small hours, a favorite tune his lyric perfected, with personal style yeah... Come fly me to the moon Lived a life of fame, never had a care it was his music that made the name The Chairman of the Board, one of a kind he invented the rules and called the game Frank, Dino, Sammy and Peter they played the scene as a loyal pack a broad, a twirl, and some gasoline L A, Vegas, New York, and back A song, a drink and a crowded room eyes focused on one called "The Voice" though many a singer would share the stage Ole Blue Eyes was the popular choice Talking a lyric was his well known style one that was mastered by only a few the big bands played, the women swooned he became number one, and his legend grew The leader of the Pack, the one not to cross wild, woolly, lifestyle turned nocturnal in clubs, bars, and hotel rooms cronies so close they seemed fraternal Now the stage is bare, he's no longer there The Voice is silent, life come to an end a legacy of music that will live forever Francis Albert Sinatra, music's best friend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Frank Sinatra died on May 14, 1998. I had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions while living in Palm Springs. I will never forget his kindness, his generosity, or the song he hummed one day while sitting in my office. FAS, thanks for the memories. [This message has been edited by Danny Holloway (edited 04-08-2000).] |

Thanks to everyone for both reading this poem and for your kind responses. Makes the effort worthwhile when other talented poets send complimentary messages. A life isn't significant except for its impact on other lives. |

Danny....this is very touching. Just fabulous!!! You were very fortunate to have met the man behind the legend, my friend. You did a great job in paying tribute here.
