Anatomy of a Poet

The poet’s mind is sliced and diced
Upon the parchment’s weathered page
The intellect revealed in thought
And wisdom proved by mellowed age

His heart is slivered paper thin
Each chamber wall exposed to sight
And any love that dwells within
Is bathed in rainbow prismed light

A poet’s spirit is engraved
In golden ink upon the leaf
In feathered phrase his character
In chosen word his core belief

His hand is written in his verse
That flows from muse’s laden quill
A poet’s inner eye is etched
On petals of a daffodil

His face appears in rippled  pond
The nose in scents of morning mist
His voice within a sparrow’s song
His feet in footstep’s reminisce

The eardrum vibrates spring fed waters
Churning in a babbling brook
His tongue is in the taste of wine
Aged in vats of poetry’s book

A poet’s heart beats to the meter
And sings in timbres of the rhyme
Aesthetic grace is spirit’s voice
And beauty is his love sublime

Elizabeth Santos

Liz, I don't usually respond with one word, but I'll make an exception in this case...

What a way to describe a poet!  You've indeed done it exceptionally well!  Beautiful imagery and all!  Wonderful!

Liz,
I've always said that if you want to get to really know a poet, just look at their words. . . this is exactly how to say it!!

Excellent poem, my friend. . .
