The River of Life

Life is a mighty river
Its currents swiftly flowing
And only this great river
Knows exactly where it is going.

The turns can be treacherous
And the waters can be rough
For the harshness of this river
Can make you think you've had enough.

Then sometimes the waters grow calm
And you gently roll downstream
With time to stop and enjoy
The beauty of everything.

So in the power of this mighty river
There is only one thing worth knowing
The river is wise, even when it's harsh, and we
Have to follow the current ever flowing.

Terry, this is excellent...so well thought out and written. great metaphor...there is something powerful about the current of water...and mystical as well
great poem...enjoyed it much
take care, jm

The stars shine so bright, now's the time
I close my eyes - soft wind touch my face,
Cool sand upon the place where I once kissed you
And held you close.
Now I will reach for the stars...
Because Oh my love, that's where you are...
Though the storms of black night rage on
I still see your face
I still feel your lips on mine
And though my heart feels all alone without you
I still hear you sing to me
I still hear your voice on the sea...

TerryW~
Oh my friend ... I really like the
serenity of this river as it flows.
A little tossing and churning ...
then smooth sailing.
I'm there !
Very lovely.

Terry,

Beautiful imagery! Powerfully intense! Really liked the flow of this...almost as though the poem itself was the very river you describe. Two thumbs up!

"You know a dream is like a river,
ever changing as it flows
and a dreamer's just a vessel
that must follow where it goes. . . "

Sorry, forgive the song, but it came to mind immediately after reading this. . . excellent. . .sometimes, we just have to let the river carry us. . .
