This isn't my usual "style" but it's pouring out this way, so please forgive the simple form and language...today I learned that my dear friend, Bill, has died, and because of his family's deep resentment about his thirty year relationship with my mother, who died eight years ago, my family will not be welcome at his memorial services. Bill was a widower when he met my mother, and he soon became part of our family. I cannot remember life without him. After so many personal losses, recently, these words are just coming out.  I can't reach anyone to talk with, so I'm sharing with you all, as I feel that you will accept the emotion.
thank you.

My William James

Not my father by blood,
but by heart's beating breath
You've left me for Heaven
as I learn of your death

Thirty years we have shared
and each day I remember
you were always so kind, Bill,
so deliberate and tender

Your hands were the largest
and most gentle I've seen,
holding, tender, my heart
taking care with my dreams

All the years playing back
through blurred vision today
Your quiet presence, sweetened laugh
knowing just what to say

To a troubled young girl
who had so much inside
You gave all of yourself
patient love, truth and pride

As much as Mom loved you
I, too, loved you Bill
I admired and respected your
strength and your will

Your loving regard
and kind care, easy ways
brought a comfort to all of us
through so many dark days

When our family was churning
you were always right there
So supportive, ever present,
always showing you cared

How can you be gone, Bill?
What now will I do?
So many I've lost,
now I'm lost without you.

Claire, Its the simple words that say the most. You should make your visit after they have gone, he will wait there for you. I'm sure, a loving spirit always does.

Clair I love the style you used as these feelings poured out of your heart.  Just as the Heavenly Father is embracing William in heaven I pray that he will embrace you and take you in his arms and love you and comfort you.   Take care,  James

The simplicity of your verse is very appropriate - It reflects your feelings perfectly - pure and simple love... very nicely done.. God Bless...

Claire,
this is indeed beautiful. . . he did indeed make an impact on your life, and a positive one at that. . .

It's amazing how people can be jealous of the friendships that we make along the way of life. . . much strength and love to you, my friend. . .
