When I was young, I'd stub my toe,
Feel stinging pain of childish blow,
Occasionally a family squabble,
On broken foot, I once did hobble.
Was fleeting pain, ache would not stay,
For with the dawn, would slip away.

Now I am grown, inside I feel,
A different pain, that will not heal,
Lancing, searing, deep sorrow's bite,
Fear ache of day, I rue the night,
Life ripped away, forever gone,
Night's endless void, no more the dawn.

This is a very sad poem. Chin up hun. The dawn will return to your life yet. Blue skies can be around the corner.....

Beautiful poem.

Love and hugs,
Lizzie

Mike, I started to write you a long letter here, then deleted it all...and just want to say strong and wrenching poem and hugs.

I think the older we get, the pains of yesteryears and days gone by grow more intense.  All the things we should have done, or done differently - it's never too late to start anew -  to make tomorrow different...remember that.  Beautiful poem BTW.

Some pain just never seems to go away. Especially the pain of losing someone close to death. It takes a long time to wrap your mind around that one. Great poem, Mike.

Wow! Awesome words, Mike.  Very moving work here... I know that "void" well.

Thanks.. you found the words I have been searching for all day to desribe how I was feeling...believe me I understand. And I agree with poet f. Fetale.. we are harder on ourselves as we grow older. And the nights are the hardest and the longest.Thank you for sharing it.

The dawn will come again~
And with that dawn, your soul will sing~
