Tenancy I said our hellos to the ocean. It answered in soft muffled tones. It spoke both of joy and of sadness, its words all repeated - all marching like armies of clones. The words told of damage inflicted by creatures who think that we own the land and the sky and the ocean; but we have forgotten, we're tenants just renting a home. We can't hear the sounds of this ocean - its pleasures, and never its pains. We can't hear the calls for rent payment, so we face eviction - a future as merely some stains. © RAM 11/26/96 in memory of Mary Elizabeth Digan McElhany, born 4/3/17, who loved the ocean. |

I loved this poem. Brilliant. And of course, I love the ocean as well, which makes this poem all the more better. Keep up the good work...I'll be loking forward to reading more from you! ![]() |

Well done! I think that we all need to stop and think about that sometimes. Thanks for reminding me that all the glorious things we take for granted aren't really ours to begin with. Great Poem! ~you reached inside, you touched my heart, and I am all the better for it~ Terry A. Woodson, Jr. |
