Adrift upon night's tideless sea,
Seeking out tempetuous ports,
Unburied hopes of drifting dead,
Punctured by lives of stinging sin,
Swells the howling chorus of man's perdition.
Mephistopheles doth cloak the night,
Darkened depths of melancholy
Forever sailing primordial seas
To silent tombs of Neptune's grave,
As solemn moans of pounding waves
Rise forth the sobbing sea.
I sail on this great brooding sea,
Crossed by no word, no whispered thought,
Mocked by crashing waves of despair,
As seek solace of nameless port.
Do not condemn this helmless ship
Adrift in muted windless storm,
For in the cold bottomless depths
of ocean's currentless void,
Lies ghostly ships of past aground
Shrouded by the sins of man.
As sinking hull fades out of sight
Into the murky depths below,
Tempest calms as anchor fails,
On sinking deck, I mourn my soul,
Rise forth the sobbing sea.

This is beautiful, profound writing, Mike. Seems we are tossing on some of the same waves today...

Well - What's to say - This is a poignant poem - and quite aptly titled, I might add.. I can't even pick out any lines that I like better than the others - Every one is teeming with fathomed intent...

Mike~
Your poetry is just a wonderful treat
to venture in.

'Rise forth the sobbing sea.'

That line, alone, is worth the read.
Thanks for sharing your images of thought.

Nobody says it like you do
Wonderful imagery, Mike
I wonder sometimes if I have the same dictionary as you. I think I do, just not the same poetic mind
