A sheath of blackened apathy Falls between our souls Separating Leaving us abandoned Within our hollow existance. The gunshots rip the sky Slicing through the nameless As we walk quickly by Giving not a glance As blood curdles at our feet. Our mother cries acid tears As her emerald heart dies Falling helplessly Squirming under the spinning blade Of destructive progress. Silent screams of the oppressed Struggle to lay dormant For if truth should be revealed The wicked price Could be their lives. Shallow perfection reigns Within suburban utopias Where fresh paint And warm candlelight Gild us with ignorance. With one hand and one heart The scarlet path many tread Can begin to clear It's cold, barren soil Free to grow dreams again. The symphony of sweet release Needs but one voice to begin But the melody cannot sing If our spirits live in the shadows And fail those who need us most. *Krista Knutson* One lives in the hope of becoming a memory. ~*Antonio Porchia*~ |

What a dark piece, Krista. The imagery you used was brilliant in its description of pain and darkness. I really like this poem, especially the closing stanza. It had me tingling. Great poem Krista. In flames I shall not be consumed, but reborn. -- Abrahm Simons |

Great poem Alwye. It is very dark and mysterious I am not a poet, I am merely one who speaks in emotion |

Dark, effective imagery...especially taken with: "Silent screams of the oppressed Struggle to lay dormant For if truth should be revealed The wicked price Could be their lives. Shallow perfection reigns Within suburban utopias Where fresh paint And warm candlelight Gild us with ignorance." |

Wonderful and so true. Sometimes it seems like an up hill battle and apathy has become our only shield. |

This verse just grabbed me... The gunshots rip the sky Slicing through the nameless As we walk quickly by Giving not a glance As blood curdles at our feet. Excellent work! <*\\\>< There's only two ways you can go... One way you can save your riches, And the other will save your soul. Rich Mullins |
