A young boy walking through ageless woods Beginning of a journey with no destination A set of footfalls filled with trepidation Moving crisply forward through pathless woods Knowing not, whether for ill, or for good A hesitant step followed by courage emanating Once the leaves envelop him, surrounded Upon his feet, an excitement grounded Every path before him, a mind disseminating Choices, decisions for a soul less discriminating Every now and then he stops, just for a bit Forsaking of the journey’s despair That he knows must surely be there He is already tired, and weary of all of it Wishing to stay, but his restless heart won’t sit He’ll climb a tree to take a hopeful look Something he feels he now must do And there at the top he takes a second or two The world opened before him like a book He remembers these pleasures the trees took Then he’ll return to Earth firm of heart Resolute to the inescapable fact That the paths disappear as he looks back This, in his decision, plays no small part With a wasted sigh, again the journey starts Ever forward his footsteps unfailingly send All the living things he learns their names Though many of a kind, none being same These will suffer their company to lend A young boy becomes man through woods with no end (new one) |
