The Call I got your call today "I'm on my way," you said. "Talk to you later, alligator." I got another call today I wondered what had took you so long Then I realized it wasn't you Do you know someone who owns a 64' Ford, ma'am? It's brown with washington license plates. No, I replied. Why? Ma'am, the person that was in the truck is dead She didn't have any id. Only a piece of paper with your number on it. Do you have any idea who it could be? "Describe her," I screamed. "Is-- I mean, was, she blonde with blue jeans." Yes ma'am, he replied. "What happened," I screamed. I have every right to know Ma'am, I'm sorry to tell you this. But it looks like your friend swerved to avoid Intoxicated people and somehow rolled the truck She was thrown from it and hit head first Pronounced dead at the scene She wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Ma'am, Ma'am are you there? "Yes, but I have just one more question" How bad is the truck? Would she have lived, with any sort of luck? I don't think so, ma'am. The cab was crushed almost beyond recognition. Do you have any other questions? "Yes, actually. Is it possible to see her?" Ma'am, he replied. I dont think you want to. Chalk her death up to another vicious drunk I'm truly sorry. Do you know where her family is? "Yes, I'm her sister. The only family remaining." Time flies? Say it not so, time stays we go. |

Well, I had a friend die in a rollover. My great grandma died when she was walking, and a drunk driver ran the light, and I'll always remember my mom's expression when she got a call her mom died. I combined the three elements. So I guess its a combination of the three. The truck, being thrown and mangled are all true parts of the story of my friend's death. Just had to get it off my chest... The poem could be better. I'm going to edit it. Thanks for everyone's replies |

Cuddlez, One of the sweetest girls I have ever known was killed by a drunk driver. She snuck out with some friends one night(very small town) she was on the back of a moped and her father's friend who was the drunk, saw her and started following her. He went too fast and hit the back of the moped. I miss her so much. This really hit home for me and I'm guessing lots of us in here. Great job on the poem, you evoked strong emotions with your words.-SEA |

Will someone please pass the tissues PLEASE????? WoW, intense poem, tears in my eyes, memories in my mind, and sorrow in my heart. It is sad how many people drink and drive and if you stop and think about it, it is always the innocent people who get hurt, almost never the drunks...Great poem and story you wrote! Just be glad I'm not your child! *evil grin* |

Thanks to all who replied. For all those who've lost a loved one, maybe it should be presented as a reminder to never leave a nice word unspoken, never wait to say I love you and that all people make mistakes. "It's human to err, divine to forgive." Time flies? Say it not so, time stays we go. |
