The Sea
By bboog

“The rolling rhythm of the sea
Still sings its soothing harmony”  Dsnyder

People rave about the sea
About how romantic it can be.
Especially walking hand in hand
Or sitting on a blanket in the sand
With wine, candlelight and a lover.

Well, I’m here to say,
Don’t judge a book by its’ cover.
For if you do, you may discover
the sea is not the romantic place
that it’s cracked up to be.
Especially at a beach in California.
For it happened once to me.

I took a girlfriend to the sea
For a romantic night and dinner.
We brought candles, wine and a blanket for cover
But we didn’t realize how cold and windy
That darn place can be.
Man, it was downright cold.

I had to chuck the candles
(they wouldn’t light)
Sand and cork bits fell into our wine
(so it didn’t taste right)
Sand invaded her panties
(she complained about it all night)

To make matters worse
A life guard jeep creeped up.
The man shined his spotlight on us
So half-naked we stumbled back to my car
after receiving a five minute lecture.

Not only were we happy not to get arrested,
but we were relieved to get far away.
For the stern life guard told us that
A cute young couple had been stabbed and robbed
at that very place just the other day.

So the next time you want to visit the sea (at night)
To make passionate love to your lover.
Bring candles, wine, and a blanket for cover
but turn left when you hit the beach
And rent a nice, luxurious hotel suite.

Then after making passionate love,
raise a wine glass to your lover’s smile
And listen closely to the sea
Singing its’ peaceful harmony.

Yep, I can relate to this...you're lucky you didn't get a lecture for having an alcoholic beverage with you and when I was a kid...warm milk, and peanut butter and sand sandwiches, YUK!  But, I do love the romance of the sea anyway, it's my favorite place, and your poem made me smile.

Well I hope you learned your lesson well, Bob! The beach is best during the day I think! This is cute! Thanks for the smiles!

bboog,
This is hilarious!
The one and only time I went to Oregon, I invited friends to go swimming at the beech, but no one wanted to. So I went alone. But I soon discovered that only sea otters swim in the waters off the coast of Oregon.
Thanks for the laugh

You're welcome Bob! I'm glad that my poem inspired you to write this funny piece! It was nice to see another view of 'romance' that the sea inspired (or didn't)!!

I love this poem. It made me giggle!!! It's fun to get some homor out of the all too serious approach we sometimes take..but hey you'll still find me writing all soft and soppy stuff about the sea and other things..coz thats what I love best!!
