Florida's Golden Coast

The bustling southeast coast of Sunshine State
A megalopolis of palms and interstate
Accommodating more and more incoming mass
As alligator lurks below the overpass

They come from all directions over land and seas
To live in sprawling tropical communities
A mega-city built between the Everglade
And coastal waterways that God and man both made

A haven for the super rich and super poor
And Spanish speaking immigrants from other shore
They come by private jet, and overcrowded boat
They bask in wealth, or simply pray to stay afloat

Luxurious yacht that’s docked along the waterfront
Material product of the manmade wealth and want
Undocumented immigrants pursuing lifelong dreams
An underground economy is bursting at the seams

The night lights up with Latin rhythm and with song
And fine cuisine and wine under stately royal palm
A glittering diamond necklace strewn from Palm Beach to the keys
And man remains a mystery to the wondrous Manatees

You're right about that Florida,
It's a helluva a place to be,
Golden beaches, swaying palms,
So many sights to see.

The only problem down there,
Is the sight that we all fear,
Down on the beach in swim trunks,
That rascal Balladeer!

You've painted a striking picture, Elizabeth... complete with contrasts of poverty with plenty. Well done!

And ROFL @ picture Toe painted... every paradise must have its drawbacks! LOL

Hi Liz,

I like this some day I will have to go there, and I love the way you can see all sides of humanity.

Elizabeth,
Your philanthropic view of Florida,
Has a multitude to consider.
And you have worded everyone
In I'd say the finest homespun.
Wonderful,
Love Sy

I agree with every word that you say Liz because I've been to Orlando and Daytona as I really enjoyed myself! Excellent description of Florida.

Lovebug, You would love it there, and I must admit, we had a blast! Thanks, dear

Toe, Thanks for the poem. Hope you will join us next time. The two muskateers missed the third one. We had a great time, but it would have been better with you. Glad to see you posting
Love ya

Pepper, Glad you liked the poem. It was just a first impression, and only one aspect of what I saw. What a great place!

Suthern, We had a great time on the phone, imagine if you had been there! It was wonderful getting to know you, and hearing the voice behind the beautiful face. Thanks for the comment

Cerenity, This was only two sides of a complex society. Thanks for you kind remarks

Sy, Thanks to you and Pepper and Balladeer, I got to see enough to paint a picture. Thank you for being my tour guide to that beautiful beach. It was like paradise. There's so much to see and do in that area.

Martie, the truth is fascinating, the poetry, just a reflection. Thanks, dear friend

Nate, Hope you liked Florida as much as I did. It's a place you want to go back to.Thanks for your comment

Liz

Wow! What a beautiful picture you paint! Makes me wish I were there. Wait! I am!!! Thanks for reminding me, Liz. Now where's that ginko beloba....?

Suthern...every paradise has its drawbacks? How you wound me!! ROFL!!! (you little devil!)

Toe went down to the beach one day,
Said, "Somebody, give me a hand.
I've always had a wild desire
To be buried in the sand."

Well, people came from miles around
To have a chance at that.
They came from New York, Oregon,
Some as far as Monserrat!

There were so many willing folks
Eager to dig his hole
The beach was closed, the cops came out
To handle crowd control.

Then finally the chore began..
I tell you, it was rough.
No matter how deep they made the hole
It wasn't deep enough!

Whenever Toe laid on his back
His belly stuck so high
They had to change the flight plans
Of the small planes flying by.

They finally put him on his belly.
Now Boy Scouts and the likes
Who come to visit had a place
Where they could park their bikes!

Balladeer,
Thanks for the laugh tonight
Was so sad to leave Florida, I needed some cheering up. Speaking of Toerag, I hope he can make it to the next meeting of the poetic minds in Florida. That would be a blast.
Thanks for the poem. I wish you would post the one that had me in tears of laughter at Sy's house. I'll never forget it
Love ya
