Hanging On

Alligator slowly slides
In black and murky bog he hides
The creature’s mystery never fades
In waters of the Everglades

Ever present, ever more
This fragile park’s protected shore
From man’s desire to invade
The waters of the Everglades

An eco-system hanging on
While other ones have come and gone
With graceful step the egret wades
In waters of the Everglades

Birds and fish and plants have changed
Because of what man rearranged
Somehow the man-made dikes outweighed
The treasures of the Everglades

Population now surrounds
The fragile border land it bounds
A debt of grievance must be paid
If we destroy the Everglades

So look upon this wondrous place
With awe and reverence on your face
And in your dreams will be portrayed
The glory of the Everglades

What splendid beauty God has made
His Spirit dwells in Everglades

Pepper, I'm not laughing at your joke. You scared me to death. In fact you almost gave me a heart attack.
Thanks for your "witty" comment.
Love you to pieces
