What did the person look for in life before he died? Blue eyes to darkness have surrendered Your fervent heart would beat no more Your hand, diagonally extended, Lied motionless, not on the floor But high above it. There in slumber You slept and dreamt that you have tumbled Like Alice, down a rabbit’s hole, With nothing there to break your fall. A single moment’s repetition Would never cease inside your mind. You thought that it was left behind, But there it spun, the apparition,-- The word you read before you died, Before you walked into the light. Inside a book, the era festers A lifetime’s captured in one line-- The second column of the “Webster’s”-- The middle of nine-fourty-nine. Thus meaning slowly grows eternal Below the “purple passage, purple Scale, purplish, purply, purport...” Your eyes were focussed on one word, One explication—definition, You sought to find a little sense. All’s in the past, clock’s stubborn hands Will not reverse. The tenth edition Forever sealed your final plea Inside a word that all can see. |

Yes..the oldest was published in 1813..it's incredible..there are some bits of cloth in the pages...a couple of pieces of really old paper and two notes..one is an invitation to a reception for a minister..dated January 2, 1852! Incredible... |
