Forever in this Lasting of Me

I have fallen into your eyes
and now you say it’s time
to close them and flow
across time’s eternity,
lost except to memory
and withered sweet decay.

Take me with you
to that place of grace,
part the curtain and let me see
your angel wings in motion glazed
with the tears that I have made.

The sound you breathe
holds such tenderness
it will feather
across my dreaming
if  you bring
in sleep this song
for my gathering.

If I could keep your laugh
that has rippled
and whistled ‘cross my pond,
I’d hold it safe
in black mantilla lace
with butterflies and silk
in a drawer that love opens.

Then your dark frailty
would not find weeping
in this stabbing
that bleeds me dry,
and time’s precious minutes
that in daring tick you out
would be forever

in this lasting of me.

Martie~
I once told Seymour that to live a fortnight with his muse would be heavenly ... I now pay you the same compliment.

You have the most unique way of walking through an experience with feather-light steps.  No one, whose writings I'm familiar with, does it quite like you.

One of the treasures of belonging to this wonderful family of pssionate poets is the pleasure of having met you and your poetry.

This particular poem is so soft that it calls my name and I have to turn my ear to the wind to be certain that it whispered my name.  I smile in knowing that it did.

This is just perfection in poetry on display.

There is something in your phrase "the lasting of me," and indeed, in the entire work, Martie, that feels so real in the reading of this delicacy. Beautiful, thank you.

Martie,
It is quite obvious where your muse is. It is in your heart. But your poetic brilliance comes from heart and mind, and both are exquisite. All the great poets of this forum recognize your exceptional talents. You are an amazing poet, an amazing woman, and I am so proud to call you my friend.

I'm with Marge,

your poetry makes me want to come to your house, discuss poetry and thoughts and compose.  Your spirit is a gentle one, and your use of imagery is something I inspire to reach towards.

Why does it have to hurt so much? Thanks for sharing this heartfelt beautiful piece, Martie.

I can feel this sadness papable to my touch- I can taste it in my tongue- Feel it in my gut - It wrenches my heart- I know it is real - but more significantly - that you could pen such sadness with such beauty - leaves me breathless
