If I were writing poetry for class I would expect to get some kind of grade And possibly, I would or would not pass Depending on the effort I had made. If I were writing verse to win a prize I'd pay attention to each dot and dash No error would escape my watchful eyes And maybe I would win a little cash. But I am simply writing here to friends Kind people here that I have come to know And whether I am good or not depends On what I have to say and not the flow. So if my poetry is not correct Small comments do not interest me because I'm writing for the people I respect Who judge me for my heart and not the flaws. |

Very well put Balladeer!! I write for myself and for those I consider friends. I have enough critics in my life. I sure don't need another one. Love it!!! Poetry~ Words falling on paper, painting a dream. Shawna R. Holder Boise, Idaho |

Balladeer ... sorry to rain on your parade here and act like a critic ... but ... while we're on the subject ... I think you should unstraighten you tie a little ... so that you look a bit less presentable Rex}<{{{{o> |

Bal:..I couldn't agree with you more, there is a time and a place for criticism and Open is not the place and although I don't mind anyone giving suggestions to anything I write, I realised a few moments ago that "what is said" can offend other people, I received mail a short time ago where someone was really upset on my behalf because bboog suggested an alteration and I'm sat here dumbfounded at the above post (may have changed as I'm debating this post....*sigh* I know I get cheesed off when reading another author's work if someone is not very diplomatic (hmmm) but never really thought of it in relation to my work as they are mostly thoughts that I post and not any great works or anything...but this person was my sister and she is upset...and I signed on just now and read this piece of yours, really made me think even more about how others read all our comments and how soemtimes we just don't know what is going on in the background... My apologies, delete this if I'm out of order, guess I'm a little bit sad that someone got hurt unnecessarily... HUSG |

Balladeer: I can always count on you to say what needs to be said... and package it in a great poem. I was more than ready to screech and holler at a self-appointed Poetry God... thanks for letting me keep what little dignity I have. *G* |

Believe me I appreciate the acceptance here after posting a few in critical analysis. I know that if I posted my poems in a poetry contest or submitted them for publication I would be found lacking in many respects. This is a nice forum to write from your heart and all levels of skill are accepted. James |

I agree, and am still reeling at the thought of anyone trying to improve Martie's free verse. It's kind of like telling Bocelli he hit a few flat notes. Loved the poem Liz |

Balladeer, I agree with your inspiration. I understand that we post in the open for ourselves and our friends. I will state for myself that I do not mind a little critical review. I am, afterall, interested in improving myself. I have also learned over the years not to be threatened by others opinions. I evaluate what they have to say. If a point is made, I learn. If I don't agree, I disregard. I like to think I have a thick skin but a soft heart. I also agree that there are many ways to say the same thing. In writing responses, we all need to be sensitive to our fellow poets. It takes courage to put your finest work our for others to read. It places you at risk...of hurt. So, my fellow poets, make your point but be kind to each other, as you would want us to be with you. INclan |

Just yesterday my husband told me that I should by books on how to write poems. I was saddened by his suggestion, because I write for me,in an attempt to get rid of the pain. Oh well I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who thinks this way and I thank you for putting it here for us. take care, Broken Wings "As you learn and grow, you will realize the greater the pain, the greater the growth." -IYANLA VANZANT |
