Time long ago as fairy tales go, there lived a dragon that ruled the land from the highest mountaintop, to the edge of the sea. He was as black as the night, with no moon. The edges of his scales were jagged and rough tipped in a fiery red. His claws he kept sharp as a razors edge. He roamed the earth with much hatred and vengeance. He destroyed any one or thing that he did come upon. One day he happened to be down by the sea, this is a place he liked to be. He was gazing out over the water his mind a drift when all of a sudden this creature appeared from right out of the sea. It was a mermaid, a princes of the sea. he gazed upon her beauty for she was the most splendid thing he had ever Seen. Her skin was deep emerald green and her hair dark coral blue. Fins of yellow gold and eyes baby blue, that glisten in the sun. She swam about with grace and ease, no fear did she posses of the fearsome dragon on the shore. The dragon now bulged himself up and took a firm stance called out to her with a mighty roar, who are you to be by my shore? The mermaid now gazed upon his massive size and with much tenderness said, I am a mermaid princes of the deep. Now the dragon as mean and mighty as he upon hearing her voice buckled at the knees, fell to the shore with out much of a chore. What is this that has happened to me he thought to himself. I feel kind of strange like something is wrong with me. He called out to her and said with a plea what have you done to me? As the mermaid gazed back at the dragon for a moment, she said so softly why nothing kind sir what do you mean. My anger my hatred, the violence I posses is go from me. Now the mermaid smiled and proceeded to tell the dragon now completely dismayed why nothing has happened to you except that you now feel another side of you. This is what they call love a splendid feeling it is, now your life will be different you will see. Then as quickly as she appeared, she vanished under the sea. For a long time did the dragon stand there by the shore just shocked to the core, now confused and dismayed turn towards home with a calmness and peace something knew to explore. The land he once roamed with a fiery vengeance now looked quiet different, with a beauty of sorts. He was still a dragon but no more anger for life did he feel just a feeling of love now filled the soul. Now the inhabitance of the land both animal and man could live out there lives with no fear of the dragon for he was as lovable as a lamb. Is this not how fairy tales go? By, Cerenity |

I loved your poem!!! It reminded me of a native story we have about the bear and the deer. The bear who was very gruff met with a deer who was very gentle. The deer being what she was enticed the bear to play with her. The bear let down his anger and together they represent a balance in the world. well that is the quick version of the story, but in the world we need the balance of both to climb the mountain. It's a beautiful fairy tale. Too bad those mixed marriages never work out |
