I look at my watch and sigh another slow day at work and I am staring out the window in sheer boredom Cars idly pass by heading to something that HAS to be more exciting than what I am doing Which is merely breathing Across the way behind a slatted fence a dirty yellow bulldozer is shoving rocks around The sounds of the copier shuffling out 50 copies breaks the maddening silence and I pray to the Phone God PLEASE make the phone ring! My eyes wander back out across the highway and the bulldozer is moving to the soft strains of Marvin Gaye Sunplay gives the illusion of no driver a riderless lumbering animal pushing endless piles of stones against a craggy mountain backdrop I check for a dial tone A rather unimpressive mountain actually rising and reaching beyond my sight it's progress cruelly blocked by the eaves outside A crumbling brown canvas sporting an occasional dull bush colorless tufts sprouting here and there Is anyone else alive out there? Nondescript rocks jut without enthusiasm and dried weeds reign within this barren kingdom A rolling wad of paper caught in a sudden gust tumbles yellow across an otherwise dismal setting Taking my own pulse I fear I have stopped breathing The world contorts and blurs victim of a jawbreaking yawn merciful tears of boredom washes the bland view from my eyes I can't help but wonder if I might actually DIE of boredom and I again look at my watch praying for 5 o'clock Before I become a new statistic.... I love the time and in between the calm inside me in the space where I can breathe... Sarah McLachlan [This message has been edited by Breathe~ (edited 03-13-2000).] |

Oh, Breathe~ I can relate to this one. And somedays just move more slowly than others ... the clock notwithstanding. Nothing more boring than watching rocks do the shuffle. You have used some very vivid imagery in this piece. Boring day or not ... your poetry came to life. Not too shabby considering the material you had to work with. This is really quite brilliant. Hope tomorrow is bustling ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
