Fatherhood (directed towards dead-beat dads)

I was inspired to write this because I didn't have a father around while growing up so prepare for an emotionally-filled piece!

Life without a father ain't easy
and you can ask my mother
because she had both responsibilities
but she handled both roles well
because our family still gelled.
But at times, I still thought about a real dad
as I remembered other kids bragging about their dad
and finding myself to feel very sad.
In art class, I would draw a make-believe father
because I wanted one real bad
and life was getting very harder.
Momma had to work two jobs and take care of us.
Now with one parent and five kids, that's two damn much!
I couldn't wait until I was old enough to work
because seeing mother struggle, made my heart hurt.
And where is a real father when you need one
because when a women gets pregnant, why do they panic and run?!!
These fathers need to realize
that they affect their children lives
becauese without a father around,
these kids develop mental scars
along witha broken heart
because of a father who can't stand
and take the responsibilities of being a real man!
I know that when I become a father one day,
I will never go away
and leave my child behind
because it messes with their minds.
I'm going to be a man and take my fahtherly responsibilities
and handle them like they should be!

If all men had the same convictions this world would be a more loving place for children. Great thoughts in this Nate!

Nate this is fabulous writing...sorry to hear you had to grow up without your dad around. I am really touched by the Everclear song "father of mine" everytime I hear it. It is heartbreaking. Yes...you are the one that can break the cycle. James
