Musing in the silence of my study- I’ve been told that “diamonds are forever”. Maybe…but if people aren’t…who cares if diamonds last; when the fingers which they graced have long since become dust? Forever is an abstract concept. We have no yardstick By which to measure forever, or eternity. Some things last a long time: the pyramids… the Coloseum at Rome…. The ruins of the Mayans. Jerusalem, the Golden. Some memories seem to last forever- memories of moments of intimacy Memories of the first time a baby says, “Mamaa” or Dada The most lasting impressions in our lives are those of sorrow. A trust betrayed, a heart broken, a loved one’s death. These are the lasting things. A boy’s thirteenth birthday ruined by an uncaring parent, a brother’s untimely death… These are the lasting things. Forever is a long time, but sorrow is longer. it seems that is all too true...pain is more striking in intensity...it is hard to refocus it on the joy that existed first...you expressed yourself very well...i enjoyed reading. |
