I've Done My Share of Living |

I wondered what the future held... When I was seventeen. Beyond the bounds of my home town, The grass looked, Oh, so green. I thought, "I'll be a soldier- And I'll fight my country's war". I'll win a thousand medals... But fate had a laugh in store. I had my share of fighting- And I bear my share of scars... But they don't hand out medals.. For the fights you have in bars. I've slept beneath the open sky- At times I've nearly froze... How many hidden tears I've shed- The good Lord only knows. I've punched a lot of cattle- I've rode a few rank broncs... I've fought a lot of battles.. In some third rate honky tonks. I've seen a lot of living.. And as long as I have breath... I'll seek that last adventure- I'm speaking of my death. But if I die tomorrow... Or if I die tonight.... Don't waste on me your sorrow Or epitaphs so trite. Just wrap me in a blanket And lay me 'neath the sod- Say, "He's had his share of living- Now he rests in peace with God". Visit My Home Page http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |

great piece gunslinger...very well written. Little bit of story wrapped up in that one I think...I liked it very much. Chris Never be a carbon copy of anybody...make your own impressions. - ANON. |

And the more living you do, the more you have to tell, and this is very well told. Your rhyme and meter are perfection Liz |

This is totally Slinger-ism at it's best. Nobody does it better, Cowboy ! ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

What about those boots Gunslinger. Are they on or off when "laid 'neath the sod"? Speaking of Cowboys, have you written anything about the King of the Cowboys??? (Roy and faithful horse Trigger). I visited his museum in Victorville years ago and really enjoyed the trip back into the cowboy days of yesteryear. |
