TO A SENTIMENTAL FOOL 5/4/88 How many times can you cry Over something that has passed you by Time changes reality everyday Something slipping softly away You can’t hold onto a dream forever Learn to survive the stormy weather Hearken back to an age long past Every memory now fading fast A new life is a life indeed And that my friend is all you need Though you think the innocence gone From the tender moments on Wings of a dream floating away Into the twilight of a fading day Why are you sad and all alone Living in this world of your own By your hands you seek to be free From the memory pain just like me You can’t bring back yesterday The future is bright, so is today Why do you wish to stumble and fall Over yourself, missing the beckoning call To be only one, only yourself Take your dreams, your only wealth And live as you would do Without anyone destroying you Don’t tread the paths of false security Take my hand and come walk with me Timeless wanderers under blue skies We halt in silence every time you cry It is known that things will change They can never be the same Not always sad because of the difference But will be tomorrow’s yesterdays’ innocence And shall henceforth be the new guiding rule A sentimental memory, not a fool |

A very nice message to get on with your life and enjoy the moment...something I have a constant battle with...holding on to the past as if I am afraid of my future. James |

Sometimes the past is a hard thing to let go of, but until one does, it is almost impossible to go on to the future. |

hehe - the title alone made this a MUST read for me...LOL I don't feel so alone in some of the things I've struggled with of late. This is beautiful. "Things will change" as you say. To choose to dwell on the past too long really does earn one the title of fool. Still, I've played the role and understand how emotion easily overrules intelect sometimes. Anyway, thought this was a wonderful poem. Michael |

JML~ I like the sentimental memories in me. It helps me see that the past is something I can live and learn from ... taking the lessons it teaches and shaping my future. I liked this very much. Very much, indeed. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Why are you sad and all alone Living in this world of your own By your hands you seek to be free From the memory pain just like me You can’t bring back yesterday The future is bright, so is today Why do you wish to stumble and fall Over yourself, missing the beckoning call To be only one, only yourself Take your dreams, your only wealth And live as you would do Without anyone destroying you Don’t tread the paths of false security Take my hand and come walk with me Timeless wanderers under blue skies We halt in silence every time you cry It is known that things will change They can never be the same Not always sad because of the difference But will be tomorrow’s yesterdays’ innocence jer, I love this one..so sensitive and sweet. with a message of wisdom. perfect... still stalking you...jm When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger... And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger While the loneliness seems to spring from your life Like a fountain from a pool. "Time changes reality every day" Indeed, it does. Actually, so many good lines in this, JML. I'm glad you shared it here. Very well written and an excellent reminder. ~ Claire |

Janet, wisdom? I don't know about that. Thanks again for the stalking. And Claire, thanks for the kindness. |

JML. . . too many times I have seen myself in your writings. . . I think that perhaps we have gone through many of the same things in our lives. . . This was well written as always, my friend. . . "Things will change. . . " they always will. . . they always will. . . --------------------------------------------- That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |
