WHEN FRIENDSHIP DIES

There's a bitterness born when friendship dies,
It hangs heavy in the air.
Perfuming, (with dust of days long past),
A looming of despair.

Memory hangs in closets of gloom,
Stubbornness stains the floor.
As time of change sweeps clean the room
That we once shared before.

Moldering curtains, dark and dampened,
Cry for release of light.
To smell the freshness of sunshine
Opened to the morning, bright.

The seeds of hate disintegrating
Beneath her honest gaze.
Seeing how we've held each other back,
We find our separate ways.

Letting go persistent selfishness,
Where love never played part.
Your friends have called as mine have too,
For answer of the heart.

New life anticipates you and I
Upon paths beyond loss.
For who's to say if Destiny
May hold these paths to cross?

I do not say goodbye to you,
Nor to your memory.
I will hold them as I held you,
In highest reverie.

Yet without clear perspective
We've become nothing mere more
Than beasts striking at each other
In never ending games of war.

So let us flee while we still may,
With our dusty closets of trinket treasures.
Leave me to mine, I leave you to yours
That they may always be our pleasures.

Do not mourn the idea, nor the dream,
For everything you dared once cherish
Remains the same, unmarred by change,
By new light never to perish.

A relationship may die, but the love never does. It lives forever. This is the underlying theme in all of your work as of late and it is so true... so true.
Another wonderful poem

~michael,

this was so beautiful! you have such a way with words that hits me straight in the heart. i agree with you...sometimes all we have left to hold onto are the memories. If those are taken away...then all is really lost. I wish you continued success through this journey. Always remember you are in many thoughts and prayers. Please take care!

Micheal,

It's hard to express how your poem stirred many emotions in me about moving on from someone...Friendships can wane but love and memories can always glow bright as an eternal heart..thanks for touching me again as your poems always do.

In every deed shall mingle, love."

I can feel you getting closer to peace with this one Michael...and I'm glad to hear it...no more bitter words, just understanding, realizing, and accepting...this is very well put!!!

this one's imagery is superb and very real...as are the emotions expressed, this is an accurate poetic picture of a marriage/relationship that is in its last moments...or thats what I read into it anyway, either way its perfect. janet marie

When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger...
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life
Like a fountain from a pool.

Wonderful Michael.  Acceptance is slow, but when it comes it brings peace. *HUGS*

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......

A poem with such depth
Words lined with feelings
And a certain sad unter tone
Well done

The ability to describe life with words is similar to painting a picture; both can be powerful tools.

endings and beginnings...impressive how you feel about them. I'm glad I read this.

Liz, I agree - the love never dies...if it was real...even though the time comes we must say goodbye.

Aimster, no one should ever let any amount of pain overcome the beauty that was originally there lest they be robbing themselves of love's true beauty.

Nan, feel's warmer already...

Ruth, come on...say something...LOL

Poeminister, thanks for the sincere reply.  Indeed, the memories glow eternal.

devina, I am getting closer...this was a real joy to pen...even through tears.  I felt very releaved, at peace if you will,  upon completing this one.

Janet, your read into it accurately.  The last line merely means within the light of memory, the beauty never diminishes.

Isis, it surely does.

serenity - Glad you took notes - there's gonna be a quiz soon!  Be ready.

Thank you everyone for the kind and supportive replies...

Michael

I'm sorry I missed this one yesterday, Michael, but so glad to have read it today...it speaks clearly and with dignity of a sense of resolution, and reads naturally with your signature poetic grace and styling. Very nicely done.
