Silence Silence is a killer of a pain It shatters all my dreams in restless night It breaks up soft melodic sound of rain And overpowers summer's thunderous light Nothing in the world could hurt me more Than cutting off the lifeline of my soul I'd rather hear the sound of nevermore Than silent words to fill an empty hole Why is it some will never understand That there's a fragile web among the souls Intricately touching every man Offering inclusion in the whole Umbilical connections round the world Breathing life and love into the vein A simple gesture or a single word Can sometimes rid the spirit of its pain Is it the simple ego of the man Who thinks he hasn't time to send a word Does he not know that any word at all Could be the sweetest music ever heard Elizabeth Santos |

The Roaring Silence I have heard it called. It can be deafening to the emotions. "I'd rather hear the sound of nevermore" Well said. Elizabeth, So much can come from just a few words, indeed. Great poem. Michael |

Elizabeth, You are absolutely right, And I do not take delight, In saying I am remiss. And could I offer you a kiss? And then perhaps start anew. With just a merci beaucoups. An excellent poem Loved it. Love Sy |

Michael, It seems like you know what I'm talking about. Whiskey and Suthern, Thank you for commenting on this poem Denise, Yep, sometimes just a "Hi" Sy, Don't worry yourself over this poem. It was actually inspired by First-Knight and if he reads it, he will understand it well. But I'll just take the kiss and run! Liz Pepper, Thanks Silence is awful, so how about I call you soon? Liz |

Very thought-provoking poem, Liz. Indeed, the power of silence is all those things you've explained. Nathan |

The sound of silence is so loud Liz--call me. Loved this poem and your wisdom of words. In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (ee cummings) |

"Fools, said I You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence" HUGS Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn. |

Sometimes silence can be worse than the most horrifying of words. This is beautiful. |

Hi Elizabeth, So wonderful a muse written into poetry. A pleasure to read, to be pulled in to the end. Intricately touching every man Offering inclusion in the whole Umbilical connections round the world Breathing life and love into the vein Rus |

It's sad, at first I deemed I read it again and still it seemed To be what I thought at first Loneliness is painful just like thirst Thirst to be loved and be able to give I felt the sadness, like falling of a cliff Beautiful the poem leis out What the inner soul might shout Nice piece Elizabeth |

Rainbow, There's the "lyric girl" pulling up one of my favorites again. Great song. It's rather recently I came to be in sync with some of Paul Simons abstract lyrics. It's sometimes a vision or first impression, the first words that pop into his mind. I kind of lived the "You can call me Al" song, that's how I know Thank you for the lyrics Love ya, Liz Anne, what you say is true, especially if there's someone you miss Thanks, Liz Grandma Jo, You understood the poem Thank you Liz Rus, What a beautiful response, Thanks for the comment Liz Helmut, Thank you for the poem Seems you read my heart Liz Marge, Your silence was hard to live through I love the sound of your words Glad to know your a little better Love ya, Liz |
