The man I never met, never even knew But, the stepson he had The hero lied in you. He taught you the values that were plain to see A love of life Pride, hard work and honesty. You had to go home, your stepfather passed away. You said you drove through, for five days you would stay. When you arrived you'd call on the phone. Your voice exhausted, yet I knew, you were glad to be "home". As I administered papers that needed to go out. You called me that day at work. We were there for each other, never a doubt. With swift reserve, you gave me your dictation. We plunged right into work with quiet dedication. Your preserverence was something to admire Did you ever allow yourself to mourn? I would have let you, if you had the desire. Upon your return, you never missed a beat. Wonder if you even gave yourself a chance to weep. And your mom, well you said, "he took care of her", until to God he returned. When you gave me his obit, your tribute and sentimentality shone through that day. It was something special about you that I had learned. In memory of Walter B. Hood Born April 13, 1913 Died Jan. 15, 1999 |
