           The common mean

I searched the world for a common mean,
An average life and a common scene.
A place of peace where all was done,
For the common two, who lived as one.

I searched the mountains, valleys fair,
I touched the earth and tasted air.
I wore my heart upon my sleeve,
I searched for what I could believe.

But all I found was plague and war.
Two thousands years and even more.
And I searched within the heart of man,
To find an average peaceful plan.

It must be somewhere deep within,
Below the greed, beneath the sin.
Somewhere in the cellar of the soul
But still a very reachable  goal.

Few take the journey to the abyss.
There are some, but most do miss.
I fear for man his narcissistic preen.
This path will never bring his mean.

If he's to live this garden, this earth.
Then he must clean up the afterbirth.

Yes, very well said, Sy. There is no common mean.....only mean. Peace exists only within.

I enjoyed your simplicity and creative, descriptive lines here, such as, and particularly, "Somewhere in the cellar of the soul."

Sy

You speak the truth, dear Poet Dove
It seems a voice from up above
I've felt these things to comfort naught
But never so eloquently thought

And this one is magnificent!

Peace is only what you find within your own heart--if it's not there then it can be no where.  Great poem Sy.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

[chuckling to herself] being that hubby and I run a cow-calf operation, your last two lines REALLY bring it home, Sy!

Thank you for a delightful and well-thought out read.

I can't imagine how this poem was rescued, I
thought it was consigned to the abyss?
