I wasn't ready to release this one yet but, it looks like I have to since I can't get my suicide poem on this board and I haven't heard one explanation from the moderators yet. By the way, this poem isn't about anybody in particular. She's young and beautiful. She's smart, energetic, kind, and she had her own piece of mind. I met her in a restaurant. And even then, she seemed to know what she wanted. She was a freshman in college, studying computer science. She had lots of knowledge and she expressed it with great defiance. She was confident and ambitious, as her life seemed to be headed toward the life of the richest. Yeah, she had a bright future ahead of her but she let the no-no's of life mislead her. She started hanging out with people, who were not her equal. She just let guys use her and leave. I wondered why she was being so naive! She started drinking and doing drugs. She started hanging out late, eventually missing school on the next day. One day, I asked her, "why she was acting this way?" She just shrugged her shoulders and left with nothing to say. I hated to see her this way. She was black queen and I was her king and our love, used to to be everthing. She locked out everybody she knew before. Now this, was too hard for me to ignore. Even though she didn't want to be bothered, I would still tell her that, "I loved her." Her school thang wasn't going to good. She was catching the devil, like I knew that she would. Her grades were so low, that she dropped out of school. For a while, she played cool and came back to school. She pulled her grades up and finished school but, just barely though. I congradulated her efforts but, she treated me as if I was a dirty leopard. She was doing all the things that held her back. I told her that crack, was something that she needed to lack. But, she wouldn't listen to anybody else so, she'll just have to learn the hard way her self. She tried to get a summer job because, times wre getting very hard. She got interviewed by a guy named, Mr. Lime but, he was thinking about sex the whole time. It was the typical day that a black girl goes through, going home and wondering next what she's gonna do. She eventually got a job at a strip club, where her nice body got much love. She was a free-lancer, as well as a good top-less dancer. Everytime I see her dancing top-less in her draws, I tell myself, "Man look, there goes another black girl lost!" Nathan |

Sometimes people only learn the hard way. Very sad but true. Denise |

Nate, I know what it's like to lose someone to the bad crowd. One of my best friends started drinking and doing drugs in high school. She was a bright and wonderful person and certainly could have led a great life, but she just wasn't strong enough to turn away from the wrong croud. There was nothing I or anyone else could do. I tried so hard to make her realize that she was throwing her life away. When she started missing school and then droped out later I lost contact. I still have her phone number and wonder sometimes if she still lives there and what became of her. It is so sad to lose someone like that, it was almost as if she died. Thank you for sharing your poem, it made me remember the past. Deborah |

Hi Nate, I think you really did a good job with this one. It displays lots of truth about the dark side of life. James She used sex, drugs, and alcohol and she never considered the cost. So sad the price she'd pay to become the black girl who's lost. |

Thank you Whiskey and James for the comments. Hey, Whiskey, you should make a poem about your friend. And thank you James for the mini-poem. Nathan |
