Did you ever try to analyze- Your feelings, thoughts, emotions? And find the basis of those strange.. And often foolish notions. Perhaps it’s pride which makes you stiff And causes all your problems And if you’d merely yield a bit- Quite likely you would solve them. Perhaps the view with which you see- Yourself..is quite askance- Indeed you may be different- To someone else’s glance. Perhaps the things you so admire- Acquaintance often hate- And things you fancy weakness- Are quite another state. That pang of sweet compassion- Which you esteem so wrong- May be the very element, You need to make you strong. The greatest gift, said Robert Burns- The Maker ever “gie us”.. Is eyes to look upon ourselves- And see “as others see us”. (4 Jan., 2000; Ft. Oglethorpe, GA) |

No, it is a quote from Robert Burns, "The gift, the gift, the gift He gie us- to see oursel's as others see us". |

Yes indeed all agreed! To see us how others do what a gift that would be! <*\\\>< Where there is faith, there is love. Where there is love, there is peace. Where there is peace, there is GOD. Where there is GOD, there is no need. Hallmark |

You never fail to amaze me with your depth GS. Wonderful this. Christopher issued a challange in prose on this subject. We must write about someone else's thoughts when they first meet us. Quite a challenge indeed. |

"Indeed you may be different- To someone else's glance." This is classical work and message, GS! And I love the Burns quote. That's from, "To a Louse," isn't it? You've got another fine poem here. Claire [This message has been edited by Meadowmuse (edited 01-05-2000).] |

Wonderful poem, Gunslinger. Insight is a true gift! Especially when about ourselves! So now you are in Georgia? I hope your travels are going well! Denise |

Great thought here Gunslinger and very well written, as your poetry always is. In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (ee cummings) |
