The Willows 'Twas all but bare and fresh~frosted the morn that I, still in nightdress, pulled slowly the door and saw, through nighttime's long escape 'pon hallowed well, the ancient cape. Nobility's cloak, 'twas lost it seemed 'neath mossy stones and misted dream. And out I slipped to stroke its sleeve, inhale its fragrant ageless weave. And with each breath my mem'ry strayed to the willows, the dewstrokes, the kisses' cascade. As embraces, most humble in honor's recline, rising treasures awakened, passion's gasp nonconfined. And as I drew inward this christened cloak's scent, 'twas the willows at daybreak ... discovery's intent.  Claire |
