Twenty-five years ago
I walked down the aisle
In a gown of white velvet
With a painted on smile.
I wish you could know
The "me" I was then
Much less world weary
(And certainly more thin!)
I still lived illusions,
Allowed myself dreams...
Within hours I learned
Delusions and schemes.
I pity that girl.
For with one bad choice,
She lost herself,
Her beliefs, and her voice.
And yet the path
That gave her such pain
Brought me to today
And all that I've gained.
For I would not trade
One tear that I've shed
One night alone
Or one prayer that I've pled
If happiness then
Would have circumvented
My chance to know you.
I would not have prevented
That poor girl's anguish...
For the woman I am
Was born from the ashes
Of that life - that sham.
And this woman's wise
Enough to cherish
The man that you are...
This love will not perish!
Thank you, my dear friend,
With each day, you show
A man worthy of my trust
I'm so proud to know...
The finest man ever!
I'm glad to be here
And finally release
The past twenty-five years.

Some of the best lessons are taught with blood and tears--Great poem and I wish you much future happiness.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.

My friend: I wish I could take away your sorrow, your pain and your past but in a way I think our past pain makes for special people and without doubt, you're one of life's special people...

You know it always makes me smile because I think you're beautiful and the radiance of goodness and compassion that is inside you shines right through...and that will last the whole of your lifetime and gives pleasure to all the people that you touch...they come away having touched love!  Been loved and maybe take a little of that love to keep with them forever!

Ooops..I'm crying

HUSG

Don't ask me where I'm going, just listen when I'm gone and far away you'll hear me singing softly to the dawn.

Belle,

Would you please refrain from writing any more poems about how wonderful I am... I know, I know, I know... everybody might think you were writing about that scalawag rascal, but WE know, don't we?  *wink*  Incidently, this was a great poem about your life -

ROFL!! "The best from you yet...." from Toerag 'cause he thinks it's about him. Well, let him keep his little fantasy. It IS one of your best, Suthern,  and I am humbled....

Suthern...beautiful. The title caught me on this piece for this simple reason:

Out of the Ashes (Also titled The Phoenix) ~Ruth

Charred ashes lay in a pile
where once were burning embers.
Dreams are discarded in the soot,
buried amidst hurt and shame.
What is left after the fire is gone
and nothing else remains?
Only me, lost and alone,
a little worse for wear,
tattered and torn,
but still intact.
I pick myself up again,
brush away the soot and grime.
Out of the ashes comes life;
and I have been resurrected.

Hoot: That's beautiful! I've noticed before that we have more in common than a name... *S* Thanks for sharing your poem!
