"How are you doing?" the doctor asked "What brought you in to see me at last? It's been awhile since you were here. Does it hurt? Oh my, now why the tear?" "Come on now. Tell me, where's the pain? You're losing weight. You need to gain. I see from your chart you've lost quite a bit. You're clothes are baggy. Nothing seems to fit." I wipe at the tears as they slide down my cheek. I sit up straight trying not to look so weak I look the doctor straight in the eye And tell him, "I'm tired of living. I'd rather die." "I've tried to eat. Nothing seems to work. I can't function alone. I miss the jerk. He treated me wrong, but he's all I had. Our marriage really wasn't all that bad." "I took the beatings and all the nasty names I did what he said. I played all his games. I kept my mouth shut when he wasn't home. I cried in my pillow when I was alone." "I can't find the strength to bring into this The last thing he left me without even a kiss. In a fit of anger, he said "for old times sake" Then continued to rape me to see what I could take." "Now I find myself pregnant, alone and confused. I know he didn't love me. I was there to be used. I don't want the reminder of the pain that I knew I want to get rid of it. I want it to be through." The doctor just stood there with tears in his eyes He said, "I'm sorry. I'm not one who usually cries. I know you're confused, alone and afraid And now you feel there's a price to be paid." "I can't say I understand anything that you feel I can only say that I know your pain is for real Only you can decide what you're future will be You have to make that decision without any help from me." "I can only tell you I know someone very much like you Who found herself in the same way not knowing what to do She took it to the Father as she talked to him in prayer She knew he'd have an answer so she left it there." "Her life wasn't easy in the years she faced alone But she did her best to make a happy, loving home And she gave all that a mother could ever give a son She filled his life with laughter, love and lots of fun." "She watched him grow into a man and go out on his own She knew she'd made the right choice now that he is grown Now this man says a prayer each day for his mother and her love And the gift of life she gave him that came from up above." "If she had not found her strength so many years ago I would not be standing here to tell you this is so When things look at there bleakest, there seems to be no end Remember you have the Father, who is your greatest friend." Deb, Enjoyed your poem, it was well done. Both the poem and the job. |

Well told Deb. I once knew a woman who was adamant about shifting the paradigm. She insisted her child was "HER's" not the rapists. |
