The Question How can the Night come clutching, clawing so? Clamoring and cloven, at barely the midst of our once endless day? Your keep is too close, mourning's Master, morose! Take leave, narrow Night! Do not linger. Leave us breathing, ever clinging by fragile finger, to those severed moments between jest and gesture when life stills, hushed, hovering, in sudden sequester, and droplet by precious droplet is ever rained into the drought of the weakened vein that begs only, with frightened refrain, to be fed another, yet again and again. |

It seeps deep into your soul and though terrifying, the Dark of night can be as comforting as the womb. Excellently done. Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~. Guess which fool missed this gem when it was first posted!! Thanks for the clue ![]() Craig Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |

Thank you, one and all, for your generous comments. I wrote this during recent reflection upon my sister's approaching death. The questions are, at times, overwhelming. |

Elizabeth ~ thank you. I enjoy free verse, though I'm still very much a neophyte to the craft. This forum is such a treasure...I've read so much fine work here with you all! ![]() |

Again I say, you have overwhelmed me with your beautiful speech of words that paint such magnificent pictures. You would make such a great artist, also. I always struggle for the words to express myself and you seem to flow so easily, so descriptively, so fluidly, so - oh I don't know how to say what I feel when I read your works. I am always drawn to your posts..Love the words you use to picture your thoughts into my soul. Truly magnificent..and I'm not just blowing smoke,Ok? God bless you even more... james david |
