That you may warm this fettered heart
and melt the shackled glacial ice
thus defer oblivion not once, twice but thrice
but would you catch my flowing thaw
that laps up to your distant shore
or would I drown in seas of tears
bolstered by my rains of fears

for is not ice my only friend
when hearts are frayed it makes amend
and protects me from decieving eyes
that turn the sun to my darkened skies

is my heart the only one
that fails to beat when love has gone
thus as an acorn falls to rock
I'll keep myself within key and lock

for rather a thousand years of frost
than to love
then live
with love that's lost

 hello darkness my old friend

Patrick-

What a lovely piece.
The phrases are unique
and pulsate with imagery.

While I don't like the cold,
I do like this verse ...

'for rather a thousand years of frost
than to love
then live
with love that's lost'

Gosh, it's wonderful.

Patrick, I really enjoyed this...it reminds me of a sonnet I wrote

To Have Never Loved

‘Tis better to have loved and lost they say
Than never to have known true love at all
But I, who’ve watched love quickly slip away
Would rather not have taken that cruel fall
O'er many loves, those tears of loss I've cried
But those be mild and darling oh so few
Compared to when, my love, you up and died
And took my broken heart along with you
So now, I live here lost inside my pain
Your memories are only in my mind
I’ll never feel true love like ours again
My heart is gone, this shell is left behind

And to the grave my voice will surely call
‘Tis better to have never loved at all

Losing at love can sure hurt. Great poem, Patrick! (yours too, Ruth!)
