Losers, yeah, I guess we are- On the downhill side of town. Our habitats are dingy bars... Our faces set in frowns Our names? Who knows? or really cares? There’s Red, or Slim, or Buck- We never call it down and out... We’re having some bad luck. Breakfast? bite your tongue, you fool! I can’t get out of bed... My face a whiskered ruined wreck My eyes are blurred and red. My hands still shake from my d.t.’s My mouth? God, what a taste... And there’s an inch of Thunderbird, That’s way too much to waste. How did it start? this life of mine? I’m not too sure I know. I guess with candlelight and wine, At luncheons where we’d go. To celebrate, to close a deal- Or maybe just unwind... The bubbly has an adder’s bite, Alas, too late I find. I lost my job, I lost my car, My house, my kids, my wife... Before I quite had realized... I lived a drunkard’s life. Start again? I scarcely think.... No need to even try... Let’s drink, be merry, have a blast Tomorrow we may die. |

I like this one too. Lovely. ~Astraea "Sometimes stars can only be seen in darkness." "Sorrow's crown of sorrow is remembering happier things." |

Great poem as usual. You keep me wondering if this is a life experience or a make believe situation. Either way, you sure know what you are talking about. Been there and got the t-shirt. I can even remember the days when you went home and wondered the next morning how you got there. Thank God for the angels watching over me and the others on the highway. What fools we have been. I don't think I could have stood it if I had caused an innocent death because of my stupid indulgence. If not for myself but for others, I saw the need to stop drinking and driving. I would like to caution everyone this New Year's to please not drink and drive. It only takes an instant to ruin your life and someone elses. The only way to know Love, is to Know God. |

I really like this poem, but the ending makes me want to kick this cowboy right over to AAA. |

Yet another great poem GS. Very important thing to keep in mind!! ~*~ Hell is not a place of fire and a devil with a tail and horns. But a place of torment because the light of God is gone. To escape this, accept the blood of Jesus Christ! ~*~ |

"The bubbly has an adder’s bite, Alas, too late I find." ...truer words are seldom penned, GS. This one is great, and takes the reader right to the source. |
