Hopelessely bound unfettered by the chains of love's grip -greatest gift, fate's cruelest curse. Wherefore do I weep at knowing the joy, the warmth, at feeling the peace, the fire. Wherefore do I weep unable to complete , to be, unknown the kiss, the flames. Wherefore do I weep at loving not living seeing not touching breathing not sharing holding not loving? All, because I, The Fool, am no more? |

Have I told you lately that I love your free verse? Yes, I do believe I have ... I am ashamed to admit, however, that the last stanza threw me off. Amazing work, Christopher. I'm getting a strong Tarot influence in it. Your reference to The Fool (a card in the Major Arcana), the symbolism of being bound (8 of Swords), "greatest gift, fate's cruelest curse" brings to mind The Devil card (in the Rider Waite deck, depicting two nude lovers literally chained to each other, standing before The Devil himself) and "at loving not living/seeing not touching/breathing not sharing/holding not loving" seems to reflect the 7 of Cups, showing visions of great things beyond our reach. Am I just coloring it with my latest interest? Or was this intentional? I enjoyed the sound of this piece, the repeating "wherefores," the continuous questioning element, the fluid phrasing, the title. As for the "fool"... The fool spends the morning asking questions. The wise one spends the morning finding answers. I'm glad I saw this tonight. Claire |

I would say rather that I am just a man with soem words Balladeer- Thank you sir, I was beginning to feel like I was back in the Navy!!! Kess- Yes you have, but you can keep on telling me!!! Red- I've read some of your work too, and I say you aren't behind at all! Liz- A higher compliment would be hard to find! Thank you kind lady! Tara- Thank you for your interpretation. (blush) but in reality, this spilled forth in a matter of less than five minutes. It wasn't something I brought, but rather that came from that place which all writers aspire! Marge- Geesh! Will you stop it! My facial muscles are beginning to get sore from all the smiles you've given me!!! Serenity- Be serene, that's what you can do!
