A good friend told me this story last night...dedicated to his Mom and Dad ~ Dog Tails ~~~~~ With callous hands he polished up old Betsy a keen eye tests the sights he knows so well The dogs have worked themselves into a frenzy if they could speak they’d have some tales to tell ~ A hug for Mom he promised to be careful then looked at me said “next time” with a smile “The fear of something happening would be dreadful” he jumped into the truck with cousin Carl ~ This time the Hunt was hindered by poor judgment some Red Wine far too much they did partake Guns and Drunks combined they must have lost their mind ‘Cause the ending almost always brings a wake ~ A tear was on his cheek as he loaded up the truck with his gun he propped Carls body against the door He was sobbing when the truck got home with lots of luck he knew he was in trouble that's for sure ~ Mom met him in the yard with a shock that hit her hard ten years off her life it did its damage Dad’s tears and then the gun Carl’s red encrusted shirt A scream from Mom was all that she could manage ~ Then up walks Grampa Joe says "this ain’t blood ya know" As he looks at Mom with a grin stuck on his lip ~ "Unless I miss my guess he's created quite a mess It's the contents of his stomach on his chest" ~~~ Rex 12/11/99 |

Rex... a tale well spun... thought Carl was a gonner fo-shur. Your moral however gets me to thinking about a place I use to see and could never figure out why it was allowed to exist in this day in age... it was called "JJJ's Liqueur & Ammo." Now if that ain't askin' for trouble I don't know what is! |

Rex - I started laughing when I read the topic title - then I felt like a heel as I read your poem. Then I felt like a fool for being sucked in. That's me, alright - a laughing foolish heel - lol. Great poem. You and Toerag must never be allowed to collaborate - lol. |
