Beware the phantom of romance
She strikes without a warning glance
She's always near but never seen
The fleeting shadow of a dream
Cares not of years, of young or old
Eraptures all within her fold
A heart of stone, a heart of gold.

She brings you joy then brings you pain
Never pretentious, never vain
She clutches you in talons sharp
Slashes your soul and breaks your heart
Invites you to the lovers dance
Then unsuspecting takes her stance
Beware the phantom of romance.

Yep - this is a repost too.... Hmm.. Same line - musta been a challenge, eh?
Any one else have theirs??? deVine??
Isn't this fun??

Pantoum of Romance

Beveiled, thou Phantom of Romance ~
Ensconced behind a cryptic door.
Might thresholds cross by happenstance,
Entrancing hearts forever more?

Unshackle now that cryptic door
Thence leave behind life's remnant scar.
Unfettered lives forever more,
Enchanting.muse sung from afar.

No longer wield life's garish scar -
Embrace free spirit - ne'er eschew
Those songs of romance once afar -
Enravish reverie anew.

Life's bygone languish now eschew.
Embrace embroiling senses of
Awakened reverie anew.
Entreat now hearts imbued in love.

Arousing senses bested of
Once covetous feigned sanctity
Entreat hearts e'er imbued in love
And cherish regaled ecstasy.

Entrust in realms of sanctity
Stars crossed are not mere happenstance
Enclave love's arcane ecstasy
Unshrouded, Phantom of Romance.

Wolf... this is my kind of poetry. I love everything about it. Thanks for giving me a chance to see it.

Nan, you're no slouch, either!

Not a challenge..a reply:

Phantom of Romance

Words whispered softly in your ear
reveal his way with lover’s chants.
His touch is often fleeting as
he leads you in his dance.

You’ve given up your other lovers
for the chance to be with him,
you focused all upon this man
who sings a lustful hymn.

In the middle of the night
his caresses, with you he’ll share;
but in the middle of the day
he claims to be elsewhere.

When the sun sets and evening comes
this lover appears to you.
Is he the fulfillment
or, is he, the death of you?

When the sun rises and morning comes
you greet the day alone.
He has left sometime ago
with a note beside the phone.

Twelve hours is a long time
to await your lovers glance
and now you wonder if he’s real
or a phantom of romance.

Bringing this to the top..in honor of Wolfgang..one of Nan's great 'finds'.... she has a way of casting out a poetic net and getting some keepers! This is one.. and Wolfgang is feeling poorly, so please let him know he's thought of!...

Besides, this is a good poem!

...Butt I know Nan quite intimately - and I'm quite sure there was nothing derogatory behind that back-sided comment....
