Haunted

O listen to that cold wind outside the sill
Can't you hear its shriek?
Hear what its whispers could tell
And ignore the banshee's shrill

What a haunted life I live these times
Never waking, never sleeping
Yet always lost inside the trench between
To leave you to think
Alone and full of your ghosts

To think of how your life could go so horribly wrong
And how the tears will never amount enough
To express the pain you feel
Or how lonely you are

To think of where all the warmth had left
And how the lone winds can sound so enormous
With gaping jaws to swallow you whole
To not even leave a memory

You're locked in an empty house
Full of sobbing
Yours or someone's own echoes?
To forever make you wonder which
Was your own voice

Huddling by a dying fire
Pretending everything's okay
Adults may be reduced so quickly
To the children weak in understanding

The whispers tell you to always face the ghosts
To show no fear in its face
But it's such a grain in your life
That makes you wonder yet again
What they ever knew of haunting

You're falling fast
Disappearing into an abyss you can't seem to leave
Turning to find that your fingers always slip through the hands you thought you saw
To leave you falling faster as something shatters inside

What a mess, what a tragedy!
The sirens singing harshly in your head
And the Muses grow silent
You realize that you've abandoned yourself

Viper loose in your heart
You're just about to break
And nothing you can do will help
All because of the haunting

So think about this now
Or it'll come back to be vengeful later
And know to wonder the shivers involved
When you hear that someone is pained
And will soon perish
Haunted
