“Boss, I thought I’d stop awhile while ridin’
The view, it almost takes my breath away...
Unspoiled by fences, pens, and cars and houses..
As pretty now as on Creation Day.

The mountain air is sweet as prairie clover
A hoss, a bunk, I couldn’t ask for more.
It makes a man take time to think it over-
And wonder what the future holds in store.

You give me health, and strength for manual labor
A love for space beneath the cloudless skies.
A taste for solitude and being lonely...
And a hunger just to hear coyote cries.

Last year I went to church down at the crossin’
They thought it strange, I tied my hoss outside...
And found a seat away back in the corner....
An’ heard of how your Son once bled and died.

That preacher knowed just ever’thing about me-
The way I used to drink and cuss and lie...
The best that I could tell from all his ravin’
.Wuz guys that lived like me was gonna fry...

But then they gave what’s called a invitation-
I heard that whosoever would believe-..
On Jesus Christ, and come to Him repentin’
The gift of life, he surely would receive.

I came just like the song that they wuz singin’
“Just As I Am”, no treasure did I bring..
I went down to my knees, a frightened sinner
And rode back to the ranch, Child of a King.

I’m tryin’ hard to understand my Bible...
An’ shore cain’t wait for you to take me Home.`
So I can thank the Boss of all the riders
And from His range I know I’ll never roam.

Gunslinger,
I really love this poem.  Obviously God not only gave you the gift of life, but the gift of a poet.  Beautifully written.
