Sometimes at night while you're asleep I lie awake and think of you. I remember the nights when my door would open and silently you would sneak in to pull my legs out straight and when you would go I'd tuck them back. Or how my covers you would adjust so I wouldn't get tangled and when you would go I twisted them up again. I remember you coming in to look at me to kiss my cheek or my arm. And say.... I love you. I never stirred... for those moments were like teardrops turning into diamonds... too precious to disturb. Sometimes at night while you're asleep I lie awake and imagine that you are here watching over me and then you say I love you. "Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me." -Charles Brugnot [This message has been edited by Saxoness (edited 01-31-2000).] |

Well ... you just made me go and check on my daughter. One doesn't realize the importance of what may seem just trivial to us. Thankyou Rex |

Thank you all for the replies! Rex, I have no doubt that your daughter will remember moments like those for the rest of her life. mariee and childomine, I am indeed fortunate to have him as my Dad. He isnt really good at expressing his emotions...but in his own way, he tells me how much he loves me. I will always hold that dear to m heart. Very touching. Further proof that the smallest things we do for others can have the most lasting, profound effect. You said it beautifully here. Lucky you to have a father like that. |

Thank you! These are the sorts of things I treasure to me when I'm all alone...the things that carry me through each day. "Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone I sing my tearful song which has charms only for me." -Charles Brugnot |

Thank you! LngJhnAg, Thank you. I am indeed lucky...more than I'll ever know. Balladeer, you're words of praise mean much to me. There is no perfect poem, however, and the little touch of human flawedness is what truly makes them great. Saxoness- What tender moments you've portrayed here. If they only realized how well we remember the little things. I hope my children have these kind of memories of my nightly vigil when they someday hover over their own children. Thanks for sharing this. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |

Saxoness, I'm very glad you overcame your writing slump just enough to pen this poem. And thank you for posting it. Sax, this is such a great poem, I'm going to save it so I can read it again and agian to remind me of my own father. I never knew how much I would treasure those moments, until my parents got a divorce. Thank you. And you will never be alone. For as long as your heart is beating, I will be at your side. And then when our hearts are no longer beating, I will meet you in heaven, and smile. Because you were the one who reminded me of the precious moments. You are never alone when you have touched so many lives. I will smile myself to sleep tonight. God Bless, and have streangth |

This poem is a rare one! It has made me actually stop to think about my own father whom I am having troubles with at the time. This poem will surely touch anybody's heart who reads it! |

Saxoness -- I am just going to repeat what has already been said but I feel I must -- this is a sweet and beautiful poem -- May love such as this always be with you. Through reading this, you actually were able to make me also feel the true love of a father -- something I have never really known. You made me stop and think. Thank you for that! If you love something, set it free, if it comes back to you, its meant to be... |

WOW!!! I tell you, I never in a million years expected this poem to get sooo many replies. I'm truly grateful to you all, and I am so glad that my poem could touch you in some small way. I gave this poem to my Dad in an E-card. I live in Missouri and he lives in Texas, and it is very hard on me and my family to be so far apart. My mother told me on the phone that she could hear him crying after he read it. When I talked to him he told me he had just been expecting some bland little hello, not to be rocked to his very core. He said he never knew that I was awake during those times. I told him, I always knew. Always. Yeah, well - Here's one more, Angela.... This is a great poem - I hope you've shared it with your dad - I think you should print it out and frame it for him for Father's Day... It's perfect.... |
