A Cowboy I'll Remain |

Faintest smell of cedar- Wafted by the breeze... Bitter edge on that North wind Spells impending freeze. My face is numb and windburnt I’m used to it of course, Too long I’ve made my livin’ From the storm deck of a horse. Dark falls in half an hour... My horse and me are tired... He ‘s thinking of alfalfa... Me of a good hot fire. With beans still good from yesterday Some bacon and some bread Strong coffee drives the chill away Before I crawl in bed. Wake up in the mornin’ Before the sun will rise.. I’ll have my pony saddled- Before daybreak paints the skies. I have no dough to speak of- And not a speck of fame... But if you want a title- “Cowboy’s” what I claim. Broken bones and bruises- Are all a part of life... Hours in the saddle, That wind cuts like a knife. Plant me on the prairie- I’ll sing this last refrain... A cowboy’s life is what I lived A cowboy I’ll remain. 01/29/00 Austin, Texas Visit My Home Page http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |

Just makes me want to build you a campfire, Slinger. Here's a warm blanketing hug to shelter you from the cold. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

"A cowboy’s life is what I lived A cowboy I’ll remain." True to the spirit. Thanks for that glimpse into a cowboy's life. Hi Gunslinger, I'm the "Man from Colorado." --remember that movie, with Glen Ford? Nice to meet ya, ~Gene (My parents named me after Gene Autry) |

Gunslinger, you know how much I enjoy your work. Your word wizardry is delightful in this piece... "From the storm deck of a horse." ~~~ "Before daybreak paints the skies." ~~~ "Plant me on the prairie-" ...masterful use of language. Claire |

Ever sice you started posting here, everytime I think cowboy, he has your face. You ARE the everyman's cowboy in my mind. Another excellent rendition. |
