Here's something I just spoke from my head into a recorder, edited down for what it's worth (not much).

Mike

-waking-
Sometimes you stare in silence.
Sometimes you can't even look at the mirror.
Sometimes you don't want to turn around
Because you don't want to look at your shadow.
Sometimes when you drop marbles on the floor
You pretend they look like gems.
Sometimes you eat crayons
Just to color your words.

Don't call me a genius,
Especially if you mean it.
Don't call me a prophet.
I'll tell you to stop it.
Don't call me a saint.
There's plenty I'll still taint.
And you can call me a writer but
Don't hold up your lighter.

Don't mistake me as an entity.
Don't take away my humanity.
Don't think of me as faceless identity.
Because I have plenty more to see,
Plenty more to be.

The spotlight's glare does not burn.
The feedback from the microphone does not sting
Or sing.
The cord does not throw long shadows on the face of the crowd.

In our suffering, in our joys,
In our buffer zone of toys,
Is something best shared quietly,
Not overloaded loud.

Thanks. Ah still dislike it! Maybe a sign of a good writer is he doesn't like much of his own work? I sure hope so. lol

She said burn ... together.

Well, thanks for saying that, PS. I just can't divorce these writings from the bitterness I had back then, so it's hard to come back and look.

Hey-that was pretty cool!

Really loved this line:

"Sometimes you eat crayons
Just to color your words."

Good stuff!
