I watched the clock tick closer to our Anniversary.
Sitting in the dark alone I wished you here with me.
I saw you there beside me with a smile on your face.
Imagining you happy and not in that awful place.

I told you that I’m happy that I belong to you.
Told you that I miss you and that I love you too.
The tears came as expected when I realized I’m alone.
And that it will be several months before you can come home.

I watched the time slip slowly past as night turned into day.
Watching as the living room turned from black to gray.
I never left that stupid chair except to run and see.
If you had sent a letter saying Happy Anniversary.

But the mailbox, it was empty, much as I am feeling now.
Trying hard to understand and cope with this somehow.
I guess I didn’t stop to think how hard this year would be.
To be a married woman with no husband next to me.

And as I sit and watch the day turn slowly into night.
I lean back in this stupid chair and pull you into sight.
Today more then any other day I needed words from you.
To hear you say your glad I’m yours and that you love me too.

I sit and watch the clock tick toward the closing of the day
I watch the room change from light and fade to lonesome gray.
I let the teardrops fall once more and drown my misery.
And whisper to the darkened room… Happy Anniversary.

I cannot express the feeling inside me from reading this...

I only wish I had the power to help you...

Lucie

Man, this is one tough poem.  I'm just a man, and so I don't always appreciate how much it means to a woman when it comes to little expressions of love.  I feel guilty for your husband because we are both men, and I might forget someday to be more sensitive to the feelings of the wonderful woman who allows me to call her my own.  This poem reminds me that I am truly blessed to have a loving woman.  I hope your man will realize the same thing and try to make amends for this bittersweet day.

Awww, Lucie... I know there's nothing we can say that will make up for what he didn't say or make your day less bleak... but these long months will end... Big hugs... and kudos for powerful writing!!!

Sweetie..it won't be long now...you'll have him home with you...don't worry about the words..just the feelings..and I'm sure he was holding you in his heart on your anniversary just as you were holding him.

Oh, Lucie, I'm sorry for your pain. Such a heartbreaking poem. Pretty soon you'll be together again. Hang in there. And remember we're all here for ya!
