THE GROAN OF ICE ON A LAKE WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HAS FLIRTED WITH ZERO ALL WEEK Well, that was the topic was faced with. I sat down vaguely intending to come up with a poem pointing out how UNhappy that sound would make me if I were skating in the middle of that lake at the time, but I seem to have come up with something quite different. (I NEVER know how these "Happies" are going to turn out . . .) Well, anyway . . . ************************************************** THE GROAN OF ICE ON A LAKE WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HAS FLIRTED WITH ZERO ALL WEEK The new girl in the office has got me dizzy. As Senior Executive I mustn't fraternize, And I try to keep a cool profile at all times, But somehow she's got me coming and going. Sometimes she *breathes* at me in such a way That I feel my insides sort of thawing (That's the only way I can describe it) And it's all I can do not to come unglued. But then if I say anything at all social, She gives me *such* a freezing look I just tighten up and go all stiff And feel as chilly as a glacier myself. She's been flirting with my feelings this way all week, And, damn it, she's only a temp! |
