Don't bury me in Potter's field Amid the sad despair Of nameless souls in unmarked graves That rest uneasy there. Don't lay me down without a stone To mark the final bow Of an actor in the play of Life On stage deserted now. Let one spectator call my name And say that he knew well The character that I portrayed Before the curtain fell. Although my face had never graced Billboard or marquis, My small bit part was played with heart And deep sincerity. I'd like to think, before I die, That someone saw me passing by And, though to Death I'll gladly yield, Don't bury me in Potter's field. |

We'd all like to be remembered, wouldn't we? Lovely verse ... but what was with the changing meter? I just got settled and it shifted on me! hehe. Got me there, Kess. Actually, I did it that way for oral presentation, which worked well since I knew what to do, but I do agree that it is unsettling in written form. Thanks for caring enough to point it out. I appreciate it |

Ah, fellow bard, er...saddle pard- To fate we all must yield. I wish to lie unknown, unsung In forest, glade, or field- And may my flesh enrich the sod- And may the grass grow green, And these tired bones turn into stones Beneath the sod unseen... If only one fair damsel would.... Shed p'raps one tear for me... And sigh, and say..."I miss the guy".. then happy would I be. Great poem, Maestro. |

By now, it goes without saying that the poem is wonderful. *G* And since I spent part of the weekend making sure a cat's grave would be marked and not forgotten, it's particularly poignant to me. *S* Whether a potter's field or GS's meadow, it seems everyone wants to have made a difference to someone... and so ROFL @ Toe volunteering to live and do the eulogy. *G* |

Balladeer- I felt, I heard, I saw you passing through my heart. You reached out with your song making sure we would not part. I will keep your song alive, long after you are gone. Sending a poetic bouquet to the plot that you call home. In the Potter's field of my mind, rest assured you will not lay. This one took me back to when I first stumbled into this forum, it seems like a thousand years ago and only last week all at the same time. Not knowing the stature of the Poet I was replying to I penned what I believed was a clever verse in reply. Fortunately you overlooked my indiscretion and still welcomed me aboard, which proves ( if any proof were needed ) you are not only a good poet but also a kind one too. This poem means a little more to me now than it did then, thanks for bringing it back. Craig ( or as you called me then another O Henry ) Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |
