As I sit and gaze into the clouded mirror Hanging somewhere in the recess of my mind. How I wish that I could see your image clearer- Just a glimpse of love which I have left behind. Oh, the vision, dear, is indistinct and hazy- Perhaps because it’s viewed through scalding tears, And the people whom we knew all say I’m crazy, But it seems the hurt grows deeper with the years. Who gets the blame? I guess I’ll have to take it- I knew it could not work right from the start. In spite of love, I knew we’d never make it- That more than miles were keeping us apart. I just wanted you to know one thing for certain- In the pain and loneliness, you aren’t alone. I too, at night, lie in the darkness hurtin’ But I guess we’re only reaping what we’ve sown. I can sure relate to this gunslinger. I'm not sure which is harder, to accept fate and realize the relationship is not right and try to let go and go on with your life in misery or to keep trying to hold it together, your claws still stuck deep within the other, so desperately holding on and not wanting to let go, yet living in misery. Seems to me the misery will pass sooner if we let go sooner. Take care.... James |

Gunslinger, when I first saw the title, I read it as "Reading and Weeping," so natur'ly I figgered it was one o' them thar poker playin' poems. Come t'find out 'tweren't. (Although the luck o' the draw might could have a little somethin' to do with it, ya think...?) Excellent sad work, well thunk up and delivered. Claire |
